The Audacious Business

Looking At Colonialism Virtues, Military Rule, and the Civil War as Three Key Events to Dealing with the Root Issue of Poor Nation Management in Nigeria

The Culture Of Strategy (1)

When you cut a tree, if you do not kill the root, it will only grow back after a while, the more you seemingly kill the tree, the deeper the root establishes itself and the stronger the tree.

This Is An Example Of Our Corruption Challenge In Nigeria; We Are Dealing With Corruption But Not From The Roots. We Are Only Attacking The Stump.

Aside from corruption, the country seems to have a myriad of challenges and each government has come up with very laudable policies to address these challenges only for the problem to rear its head again.

Have we ever really looked at the root issues with respect to corruption and economic progress?

The same happens with organizations, they address the symptoms of their problems and not the root of the issue.

In This 4-Part Series, We Will Be Looking Briefly At The Culture Challenge In Implementing Business Strategy, Either For Nation Building Or Business Management.

In addressing the root issues, for the sake of this write-up, I will be mentioning 3 main items with respect to dealing with the root issue of poor nation management in Nigeria.

  • Colonialism Virtues
  • Military Rule
  • Civil War
  1. Colonialism virtues of ‘us versus them mentality. The government was seen as ‘them’ and one of the ways of dealing with them was disobedience and recalcitrance. Our fathers did not do much at addressing the need to change the mindset governing this problem, but we can do this together as a people. Our government is no more for the colonialists; we all now form the government.

The government needs to engage in a massive and long-term campaign where this matter and issues around it are brought up and discussed with all kinds of engagements to dissuade the colonial mindsets and remind everyone that we are all now involved and every bad form of leadership at every level affects every Nigerian.

What forms the root or history of your organization? Have you reviewed it in line with current realities and future trends, are those practices relevant for today’s market and business?

Subscribe to read further to be discussed in subsequent write-ups.
